There are a few scenes when Cloud hears his voice and it's the old him, with ore, and he is kind instead of derisive and superior. It's unclear if this is the real guy breaking through or just Cloud remembering/imagining him. Remake actually sticks to this in Japanese iirc, despite all its crimes.

his human side sort of getting squashed by John Carpenter's The Thing. He goes from talking like a cool-headed older military guy to talking like a cartoon villain immediately. He stops using ore and switches to watashi, which can be read as feminine but also comes off as extremely detached.
