I recall a Kuwaiti friend asking me how Emiratis were silent in the face of growing state repression + authoritarianism. Seeing as there is no backlash against the mass denaturalisations in Kuwait, it shows that resisting authoritarianism is not easy, even when the affected are in their thousands.
