Show PostThis is absolutely a real privilege. Being witty, especially in a business/finance environment, is a huge leg up. I’m confident I’m good at what I do, but I’m quick with a joke, or a light of your smoke, and that goes a looooog way to set you apart.
Show PostSomeone shared this in @esqueer.net's mentions. It's from January, but if you haven't already read it and are interested in machine consciousness/AI consciousness it's by far the best thing I've read on the subject. www.noemamag.com/the-mytholog...
Show PostThe social capital of humor (and the associated insight) is definitely a thing but it was a survival mechanism I opted into as a kid. For me it has always felt a whole lot less like a genetic lottery (like being extremely tall is) and more like a skill.
Show PostI think a lot of humor is tied to emotional intelligence. Like, if my one good joke is misogynistic and I tell it to everyone, will I gain an advantage? (My jokes aren’t, just an example). But the key is knowing who you can joke with and when. Without that, you’re just an ass.
