omfg. sociologists listen to economists all the time, usually while gritting their teeth at the complete lack of ever accounting for sociocultural variables. in my experience the meme really goes the other way round. too many economists don't bother to listen to sociologists

I absolutely do not believe sociologists are saying that. Economics, as a field, has a tendency to ask the question and then reject possible answers that cannot be quantified or fit into a quantitative economic paradigm.
