This is also why I think it is so important to include the crimes of Italian fascists and Japanese militarists (and even of the Soviets) because the lesson is not 'the Nazis were uniquely bad' but rather 'if you let authoritarians take and hold power in *any* country, this is what they will do.'

This whole thread. The whole thing. I will also say, Perosnally I had a very narrow view of nazis... And then one day I learned about the existence of unit 731 and it made rethink a lot of things about who the bad guys can be (or actively are) in any given situation
