(I think Burnout from 2 onward also did a thing to mitigate this back then where besides being a pretty instant transition, you get a second of invulnerably that just slides you back towards the center of the track alongside just steering you in that direction when they take control of the camera.)

I really enjoyed that aspect of Burnout, and the game wouldn't immediately wreck you (most of the time). At least you can turn off the effect. But gods I'd love that to work better.
