Sent off a 180,000 word book manuscript for peer review today, titled "Canada's Unwritten Constitution: Political Foundations and the Limits of Law" Was great writing this with @plagasse.bsky.social. (Might be the best scholarly work I've ever produced, but we'll see what the peer reviewers say!)

(1) As usual with Paine, this is striking language, but crappy reasoning. Neglecting a duty is not normally a “crime” (even figuratively). Paine’s leap here is scary. (2) If the reasoning were sound, it would constitute an excellent reason *not* to regard knowledge as a duty.
