She tries to get it from peers, there is none she can really trust (except Tommy near the end.) She tries to get it from authority figures at school, it’s guarded and uncertain. She tries to get it from her mom, only to realize she’s been abusing her her whole life. She is *incredibly* isolated.

*Spoilers here on out* I know some people aren’t thrilled with the way the prom unfolds and Carrie’s “helper.” But I think it fits in perfectly with how this series writes her. This Carrie is deeply kind and optimistic, and as it gets ripped away from her bit by bit, she is desperate for refuge.
