Very nice discovery from the Jackson, Bravo and Basel labs. Cleaved tRNA ends, loaded with an amino acid, activate a form of bacterial immunity
Show PostKudos to the Sternberg lab on these exciting discoveries!
Show PostWe had dismissed TERT’s puzzling placement in bacterial RT trees as an artifact… Then a chance encounter between @pentamorfico.bsky.social and @sternberglab.bsky.social (working on DRT10’s mechanism @stephentang23.bsky.social) provided some clues! 🔍🧬
Show Post1/5 Telomerase has long been linked to chromosome maintenance in eukaryotes. Now, we show that telomerase-like activity is also present in bacteria, shedding new light on its ancient origins. Excited to share that our work on DRT10 is now out in @nature.com! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Show PostHappy to share my PhD work on the regulatory mechanism of E3 ligase RNF213! RNF213 is not a monomer, but a dimer that switches between inhibited and activated states in an ATP-dependent manner. We tracked the activation mechanism and showed how disease mutations can destabilize the inhibited state.
