That is not possible when every millionaire thinks the worth of their house doesn’t count, or billionaires are the real problem, or “the politicians.” If everyone is “just a little guy” no one’s left to be a citizen.

You might say “why have an elite?” It’s a feature of a free society that people—by skill, effort, or chance—will end up in positions of power and influence outside of the state. Those people should feel a moral obligation to to use that power to the betterment of society.
