If you get far enough through the piece you run into the fact that the authors believe that candidates on the left either do not have consultants or they work on a different, more pure model than more centrist counterparts. Which ... bless their hearts.
Show PostAgain, “consultant class” is not defined. Most consultants get paid only for their labor, or to prove some service or product, for which they are paid some small % of the total money spent. Typically a candidate pays a small retainer, but if the campaign struggles & doesn’t raise enough…/1
Show PostThey conflate too many things and it's fucking embarrassing that they keep getting pats on the back rather than encouraged to understand what the fuck they're talking about. Also, if you pay a polling firm, the polling firm uses the money to conduct polls, which are not free. Same for placing TV.
Show PostBuilding hundreds of campaign organizations every two years across the country is extraordinarily expensive work & you cannot hope to do it on that scale without deep professional involvement. As long as this is how we do elections, we need consultants, & the market reflects it.
Show PostSo without those vendors, the cost of setting up and running a campaign would be even more expensive, prohibitively so. Just think of all of the people you would have to hire on every single time you start a campaign.
