Its not just animation that has been pushed toward must look pretty to get noticed, just look at webcomics since webtoons became a thing. its a larger trend just made worse now that genAI is on the scene. It’s this idea that “pretty = good” and that’s bound to harm us all.

a cool thing about indie animation is that it's expected to save the entire industry, every show has to look better than the things the fans grew up on or it's a waste of time, there's no union to be found anywhere, no budget for any of it, and asking the audience to pay anything to watch is illegal

Yeah, like... I am just looking at it like "a lot of unemployed ppl got together to make something." No one can tell what will come of it. I am still hoping for the implosion of all of the big studios, and a renaissance.
