@jetlageman.bsky.socialNew view on spinal motor function! Nearly every movement we make is partially generated by the spinal cord. Yet how its circuits generate movement remains a mystery, even though it is one of the oldest subjects in modern neuroscience, studied since Sherrington. Details: doi.org/10.1016/j.co...
Show PostOur paper is out in Nature, congrats to Qiyu, An et al! By stimulating ~20 motor cortex neurons carefully selected based on their activity, we could induce learned population activity and, sometimes, the movement itself, depending on the brain's state. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Show PostOk now we have recognized optogenetics, which massively deserved that Nobel medal. Next on the list is dopamine, right? Wolfram Schultz and colleagues have changed our understanding of the brain and mind to the point that dopamine/reward are now part of popular culture (and for the right reasons).
Show PostToo many neuro preprints to keep track of, so I made a monthly ranking of the most-read ones on bioRxiv. Not a measure of quality, just what people are reading. Here's the fresh ranking for September: robertodf.github.io/biorxiv-top/
Show PostThe cerebellum distinguishes similar tasks by rotating its activity patterns. These low-dimensional manifolds and their subspace bases are consistent with wave dynamics in neural networks. www.thetransmitter.org/cerebellum/c... #neuroscience
