It's so weird when a parent constantly says they love you but spends a lifetime saying things and acting in a way that doesn't support those words. Also, never showing true interest in getting to know you as an adult and always referring to who you were as a kid/teenager is frustrating.

Sadly, I'm in this situation now with one of my parents. (They've been divorced for 30+ years). The one parent I no longer talk to spent their life verbally and emotionally assaulting the people around them, being forgiven over and over, but this time is facing a consequence of that action.
