If you're 79, living in a mansion, presumably kids have left, and think your taxes are too high, you should probably downsize. I just don't look at an octogenarian standing in front of a 5 bedroom and think "poor him"

The really weird part was that these were people who had OPTED IN to a cohousing community. At some point in their lives they believed in those ideals, but when it came time to follow through they just could not do it. It was a very deeply frustrating amount of cognitive dissonance

There were ultimately other issues that led to us leaving, but honestly one of the main ones really very much was that we didn’t feel like we could be in community long term with a group that was more than half white boomers. That feeling has not changed in the decade since lol

We lived in a two bedroom, and that was fine, but this was pre-kids. The family next us had 3 kids when we moved in and 4 by the time we left, and it was VERY clear that the 70-something people living alone in 4/5 bedroom houses were not going to change that.
