@meidastouch.com One more unheralded victim of the Trump Chilling effect: CCCC. Silencing a 77 year old professional association for Composition and Communications fits very neatly into a plan to defeat critical thought in America. If only some journalists could investigate NCTE to find out why.

This is basically the same story of comp/rhet in English departments for decades. It's why we needed the CCCC. "The department looks forward to involving writing studies in the future of the department if possible." Did seven English department chairs from the 1980s write this memo?

This is a good opportunity to consider why we assess students the way we do and what we believe about how particular kinds of assignments are a “proxy” for assessing learning (as opposed to assessing the ability to complete that assignment, often without being given instruction in it).
