I have come to proudly identify as liberal. We need to stop being embarrassed of it. Liberalism kicks ass. Liberalism isnt leftism light. Its a political program that respects people's individual rights, human falibility and the historical fact that the ends do not justify the means.

Look at the scoreboard. Liberal democratic governments have delivered much better results on just about every metric than leftist governments and dont kill single to double percentage points of their populations to do it.

The idea of compromise has become demonized. But the reality is that politics IS compromise in a democracy. People who disagree are able to come together and hash something out. It's not pretty or pure or satisfying but it's an alternative to violence or authoritarian dictatorship.
