Picture a bunch of MBA's all getting scammed with a massive case of FOMO at the same time. They HAD to buy all the "AI" machines, or else everybody else would have them and they would have no "AI" for themselves. Just having the machines meant they had the "AI" and not their competition. Madness.

For reference, I have one - ONE - GPU in my system, an RTX 4080. It maxes out at around 360 watts. Combine that with a 120 watt CPU, and the whole system uses a tenth of one a single "AI" accelerator uses. It can bring my office's temperature to 88F/31C all by itself. I had to get a window AC.

This era is going to represent the biggest pile of wasted silicon in the history of the microprocessor, because all these things are doing right now is depreciating. It's possible that's all they'll ever do.
