Sound Transit actually wrote a couple hundred (ur link is about Metro buses) but there’s still like 30-40% fare evasion on the light rail (vs <5% pre covid) Sound Transit checked about 2.5x more fares in 2018 than 2025 despite having much lower ridership.
Show PostThis is Seattle Link, though. Sound Transit, so different agency. When I was there for a week about a year ago, I got checked 3x which seemed decently often. I haven't checked the stats, though, but their procedure seemed pretty good.
Show PostExcellent piece, with an interesting connection to Philly: Parsons Brinkerhoff had also recommended a high-speed underwater tube be used in the South Jersey Mass Transit system, also replacing an earlier bridge railway (Ben Franklin). When sponsor DRPA balked at the cost, PB turned to BART
Show PostRemains me of early @zacharyschrag.bsky.social on how buses defeated streetcars on Manhattan in no small part due to less onerous labor rules.
Show PostThis, and frankly the current system works because people think they are cops.
