This whole thing has been a great example of why the whole “just talk to someone who disagrees” stuff is silly. Look at the way they interpret someone responding directly to an Islamophobic slander.

Conservatives get very upset when you answer their question directly, force them to own the subtext of the question, and expose the bad-faith politics underneath all of it. You cannot separate this from the context of the President calling AES a “jihadist” and “Mohammad” at his rallies. You can’t.
