I’m truly shocked by these comments from the president of the National Trainers Federation. I had expected Hugo Baillie Rohan Palmer, 5th Baron Palmer, scion of the Huntley and Palmer biscuit empire, to be a tooth’n’claw socialist. Shows what I know.

Doom and gloom on the front page of today’s Racing Post. The sport’s interests have been aligned far too closely with those of rapacious bookmakers for far too long. It’s benefited during the good times but here come the bad. It’s facile to blame the Government in these circumstances.
