    The moral panic around young men has even reached the UK, a place where there is virtually no evidence for it, as shown by @turnbulldugarte.com and Emilia Belknap (ukandeu.ac.uk/most-british...) and in this IPPR report that I contributed to (www.ippr.org/articles/a-g...).

    It is not just a Gen Z thing. Millennials went through it as well. There was a famous (and famously terrible) paper that held us responsible for "democratic deconsolidation". It got debunked extensively (in part exactly for attributing age effects to cohorts), but I still see it cited all the time.

    There has been a gigantic moral panic about the politics of young people - and especially young men. It's a bullshit narrative. Young people's voting behaviour and attitudes are more unstable and tend to swing more markedly with short-term trends. But they kids are alright.

    I also feel we underestimated the anti-government wave we have been seeing for some years, and it still hits (harder) (inflation being one but probably not the only reason for it). And this wave also hits authoritarians. So, we must be careful to not overinterpret this as anti-authoritarian vote.
