    Early stroll. The sky feels very close, as though it’s a dark parachute, falling. The temporary traffic lights continue their interventions into darkness. A crowd of plantpots round a door like very early carol singers. A stick waits in a bus stop. A man stares from a bright room.

    The Bloke With The Dog is waiting outside the shop when I walk up. We get the papers out of the box. The shopkeeper arrives. We carry the papers in. I knock the box of poppies off the counter and they scatter across the floor, heavy with poignant metaphor. The Bloke With Two Dogs comes in.

    I felt some peace today - the first time in a long time. I walked down to our woods with my dog and stood under this tree. The sky was alive with migrating birds - Fieldfares, Redwings - hundreds of them. I stood and looked up and marvelled at life and thought of time passing and time passed.
