How do our cells know where to stop transcription? 🧬 In a new Forum article in Trends in Genetics, researchers from the Kamieniarz-Gdula lab (@stoplab.bsky.social) review global evidence showing that RNA cleavage & transcription termination don't always move in sync! doi.org/10.1016/j.ti...

    2. Interestingly, another clue lies in the cleavage-termination distance, which is particularly short in primary tumors, especially at oncogenes. The shorter the distance, the higher the nuclear gene expression. This relationship also holds in cervical and pancreatic cancer cells.

    1. And the differences don’t end there! We also observed contrasting patterns of alternative polyadenylation and transcription termination during colorectal cancer progression. Remarkably, metastatic cells partially revert toward the termination patterns seen in healthy cells.

    3. Cleavage-termination distance is also linked to sensitivity to changes in #PCF11 and #CPSF73 levels. Could this differential dependence on pre-mRNA 3'end processing and termination factors reveal an overlooked vulnerability in tumor cells and open new avenues for cancer therapy?
