It's been a while since the last train left from here.

So extra Canberra services could have to begin/terminate at Campbelltown?

The dual-mode power on the new trains might encourage the government to run more SHL trains through to Central, since they won't burn diesel in Sydney. I'm pretty sure there's room on the Main Southern so long as you run past Sydenham and not through the airport tunnel.

Canberra is a car city. There were ambitious rail plans when it was begun in 1913 (including a line to Jervis Bay, heaven only knows how it was supposed to cross the Shoalhaven gorge!) but the war intervened and from the 1920s car worship took over. There is still hysterical opposition to the tram!

That is the problem currently, they don't have sufficient carriages. But when the new trains (eventually) enter service, they will have more available.
