@metorrespadilla.bsky.socialWe often say cancers reactivate embryonic programs, but how often does this happen? and is it always bad? In this study, we develop EmbryoRadar to detect widespread expression of preimplantation transcriptional programs across all cancers, with varied patient outcomes www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Show PostOur latest paper is out in @embojournal.org! Chromatin compaction is a hallmark of apoptosis, but the mechanism & function of this process was unclear. We show apoptotic compaction is required to prevent fragmented DNA from spreading beyond the dying cell, and is driven by histone deacetylation.

Show PostTwo steps in gene expression that should move together… don’t. In our new paper we show that pre-mRNA cleavage and RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) termination shift in opposite directions – with a surprising link to gene expression and cancer cell vulnerability. Show PostMost animal species pack sperm DNA with protamines instead of histones. Protamines are essential for male fertility. They are among the fastest-evolving genes in animals. That makes little sense. We think we know why, in a new paper led by @ching-hochang.bsky.social. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
