@markberlin2.bsky.socialThanks, and good point. I think terrorism/etc. research doesn't have the same norms as other fields like LAP, perhaps because of the high demand for "content" combined with so few people with relevant language skills. The consumers and gatekeepers just aren't as concerned. It is unfortunate.
Show PostThis is an interesting finding. In Latin American politics research there is an expectation articles will site local language sources. It has been a frequent peer review topic for a long time. Why do you think some "jihadism research" relies so heavily on English-language sources?
Show PostFascinating article by @markberlin2.bsky.social! Only about half of the articles in "jihadism research" in prominent journals cite any non-English-language sources. But there's a ton of variation across journals. (ISQ, when I was an associate ed., is about 15%.) Lots to think about, and improve.
Show PostExtensive English-language bias influences who we talk to and with, even when talking about them
Show PostIt's really is kinda wild that 'House of the Dragon' isn't just speed running the 'Game of Thrones' descent into the toilet, but doing it in the exact same ways. Like we're only in season 3 and the insane fast-travel shenanigans are in full effect.
