I was also talking about how I as a Deafblind parent don’t feel safe volunteering in my kids school because they don’t have a fucking visual alarm. And I was told by a future disabled that apparently I shouldn’t expect to be rescued over a child. So that was cute.

In my work place there are people in wheelchairs. We were told if there is a fire, and you can't easily get a person out with a wheelchair, to get out yourself and when you are outside. Let a fireman know.😬

So I spent most of the last 24 hours fighting with nondisableds on threads about disabled people’s access to emergency egress and emergency notification systems that actually work for us. It was a reminder that nondisabled naievete about actual disabled experiences is very very real.
