@snarkbat.bsky.social(this was me trying 'Shabbat as freedom from oppression', and I would certainly characterise having to exist in an audist/oralist society as a deaf person as a form of oppression.)
Show Postkinda jealous, tbh; I tried going without hearing aids for a couple of Shabbats, but the issue I ran into is that a. there isn't really a lot I do for self-soothing that doesn't involve hearing, and b. it's kind of hard to mitigate tinnitus without noise at a level I can hear.
Show PostNormies live in a perpetual state of "I think therefore it must be," and will fight to the death against any fact that threatens their sense of stability. Accepting the truth means admitting they're not as safe as they think they are, nor can they defend themselves by their own power alone.
Show Postsign is still my primary expressive language aside from aac, & i also use it for receptive language more than i use my hearing aids (partially because phonak has done really shit at earmolds recently & my aids haven't been comfortable at all) & auditory processing problems, sound is a lot of work.
Show Posti've also variously cycled through semispeaking, semiverbal, variations of nonverbal, & none of them fit quite right or feel right anymore. the rest are centred around voice words as normative, & except for at home sometimes & a few doctors i don't voice words. at least, that's current reasoning.
