Elon Musk made a chatbot that had Tourette’s syndrome with mentions of white genocide for the same reason that he bought Twitter: platform control. You can say literally hundreds of bad things about him but you can’t say that the purchase of Twitter didn’t pay off in mainstreaming his ideas.

One of the reasons that the willful blindness about AI from people with platforms on the left is shortsighted is that “hope it goes away” doesn’t have a great track record as a strategy for contesting control of new political domains and technologies.

To me, that makes sense. One of AI's greatest promises is to help people without tech skills to achieve tasks that would be out of their reach. I don't see the evil in that.
