One of the many things I love about El-Sayed is that he's willing to engage with someone hostile if it gets them to admit the premises behind that hostility, to the extent that it becomes impossible to avoid the underlying bigotry. You want to go there, fine, but he's gonna make you own it.

FWIW: Dade Phelan has long been one of the more outspoken critics of the Texas GOP's far right - so much so that it lost him his House speakership. He has nothing to lose by being honest about the potential midterm fallout.
