I'm Canadian and this is exactly a part of it. Messy in a smaller space is unfortunately less fun than in a much bigger space. My childhood home has lots of other rooms to go into, here not so much. But still, yes, we should just be more forgiving of each other and ourselves and have coffee anyway!

This. My parents throughout my childhood had large houses with plenty of storage. I have a good job and so does my wife and our home has very limited storage, and we both work, and we have children, and we have stuff everywhere. It's a week's effort to get the house in a state to entertain.
