This is going to sound harsher than it is intended, but — talk to a qualified elder law attorney so we don’t have to fix what someone else screws up. It’s a complex field with half-known rules that don’t always apply the same across state lines.

This is exactly why you do a joint tenancy or transfer the property deed while she is still alive. They can't put a lien on a property owned by someone else.

I keep seeing other posts about this that are confusing two separate issues, so here I am again. There are two major pain points with Medicaid: 1. Qualification / means testing 2. Estate recovery / clawbacks These are different things!
