We recently constructed an oyster reef in St Bernard Parish using recycled shells from NOLA restaurants. The reef will help mitigate shoreline erosion while supporting oyster growth & habitat. Thank you Baptist Community Ministries for helping support this project through the K20 Grant Award!

Through the Baptist Community Ministries K20 Grant, we continued to restore the Central Wetlands in St Bernard & Orleans Parishes with native trees & grasses. Reforestation mitigates impacts of hurricanes, creates higher quality habitat and a stronger connection between communities & landscape.

CRCL spent the winter, spring and summer planting native trees & marsh grass to help reforest the Central Wetlands. So far this year, our volunteers have helped put 8,000 native plants in the ground as part of the Central Wetlands Reforestation Collective! We can’t wait to plant more this fall!

We're constructing vertical oyster gardens as part of a new community science project! Barataria Terrebonne Estuary System residents can hang them off docks to monitor oyster accumulation & growth, which will inform us of oyster recruitment trends. Thank you, BTNEP, for supporting this project!
