imho good unit tests are much more about "I want to make sure I don't fuck up something subtle when I inevitably refactor this" than "this is definitely working correctly and doesn't need a human to QA it."

100%. and unit testing just can't catch every kind of bug anyway, nor would any sane proponent of unit tests make that claim

a lot of these slop codebases don't even seem to engage in a lot of basic code hygiene because "who cares the AI will just fix it with another 9000sloc commit" so they're not even trying to reduce the surface of unverifiable UX code

if you're just rubberstamping whatever bullshit claude spits out, of course, that goes out the window. so many shiny ne wapps I've tried recently on linux (that are obviously vibe coded) have obvious UX dysfunctions
