Reading through @petergs.bsky.social latest talk on "What Difference Might Biology Make" and combining that with his writings about the role of EMG (below) and a new paper on density europepmc.org/article/med/... puts the final nail into the coffin for any conscious experience in LLMs.

But if that singularity relies on more than complex connectomes, which one might rebuild with LLMs, and also needs the tight gouplings described by @petergs.bsky.social or @earlkmiller.bsky.social or @anilseth.bsky.social then AI consciousness, for now, is out of the question.

I would suggest the combination of "Theory and Reality: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Science" (press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/bo...) and "Philosophy of Biology" (press.princeton.edu/books/hardco...), both by @petergs.bsky.social— accessibly written and enjoyable books overall!
