Like, I don't know what to tell you if you think that Republicans suddenly loving tarrifs and Russia after 2016 or Democrats flipping on Israel in spring 2025 are organic phenomena entirely unrelated to changes in top-down party pressures. Like cmon folks let's be serious

I know several people who have been beaten down into becoming more electoralist by how badly 2016 went and how much crow they ate afterwards. It's not a short term persuasion strategy, but it helps to have in the ether as long as it is in fact based on shared values, and once again, everyone does it
