I've seen people critique the euphemisms bc it reinforces the idea that it's "taboo" to talk about the subjects they're representing, esp when you use them irl or where there's no algorithmic incentive to self-censor. E.g. it's hard enough to get ppl to take rape seriously without calling it "grape"
Show Postsorry I worded this weirdly, I know abt the origin but you also see their use outside that as a sign of the kids being weak/squeamish or whatever, like they're a sign of avoiding a topic as opposed to what's actually happening, which is discussing a topic openly using stupid words
Show PostAs far as I know people started using them to get around censorship and demonetization on other platforms. Why anyone would keep using them (or use it here where it doesn’t matter) I don’t know… it makes it harder for people to actually block the phrases if they needed it. So it’s annoying.
