I think about wars and conflicts around the globe, our spending on AUKUS, etc. I think we'd be better supporting Ukraine, learning everything we can and adding to their practical drone warfare. That would give us better tools to cover our border, air and water, and also bet met by local industry.

Instead we'll throw unthinkable amounts of money at the USA for a few high profile vessels that make more sense if our goal were to serve as units in the USA's conflicts rather than genuinely building our own security.

In my dreams something like this links up at least Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane. I took the XPT Mel-Syd and return at Xmas, they apologised for it's outdatedness as part of the welcome. I miss long distance trains from my years living in different parts of Europe.

There, I did the fucking thing! I really feel I deserve a gold star sticker of similar given how much I really didn't want to make that damn phone call, but it was made and was only moderately painful/frustrating in the end. None of which is a surprise, but still, GAH!
