Public health can be hard to grasp like that. We deal with huge numbers, then get upset about "small" numbers... but it's not just numbers. It's about progress towards better health so people don't suffer terrible, *preventable* loss.

Me, trying to explain to teenagers why hundreds of dead children is a disaster when there are millions of cases... It's a disaster because kids aren't meant to die in such numbers, based on age alone, but also... we are talking about preventable deaths. One preventable death is one too many.

I got him a set of stairs but he’s blind and I don’t want him to miss :( Plus his diabetes means he has to pee urgently, and he gets confused about directionality when waking up. If he can’t find his way to his indoor toilet he just goes and then gets guilty and scared
