I use s* for section, p* for paragraph, and dot* for the big centered dot used as placeholders in contracts and drafts. The beauty is that it works across all Office products so I can just as quickly add them to emails.

Weird and mostly inconsequential Ohio practice thing—we rarely use § because “R.C.” replaces “Ohio Revised Code Section,” but we use ¶ a lot because all Ohio cases since 2001 use paragraph numbers for pin cites. “alt-p” is one of the first things I set up in Word with a new computer.
