This Weekly News advert (circa late 70s?) encapsulates the era perfectly: flying saucers are given more prominence than a Mafia confession, all topped off with Crossroads and a picture of a half-naked woman. A proto-Take a Break if ever I saw one.
Show PostI guarantee you that GB Fash Music Radio will just play all the oldies you’re already sick of on other stations.
Show PostIf the subscriber only had a 405-line set, they wouldn't've seen BBC-2 — there was no line conversion done by STAR, it was just a frequency shift down to Band I, necessary because their cables were VHF only. A dual-standard 405/625 set would still be needed.

Show PostBBC2 in Band I? Wow. And would this have been System A, System I or what? No idea about what channels the old cable companies like British Relay and Rediffusion used back then, and the last time I had analogue cable in the 90s ISTR all kinds of weird off-brand frequencies were in use.
