We tended to agree that there were too many loopholes. Nowadays I consider the truly astonishing fortunes of people like Musk, Bezos et al to be national security threats, and despite remaining ideologically right of center I do argue that some form of wealth tax isnnecessary on those grounds.

As a country that can “afford” to spend close to a billion dollars a day bombing countries, giving trillions in tax cuts to billionaires and corporations,, you’d think we could afford to keep those who’ve given 50-60 years of labor a comfortable retirement. Just saying.

As a person who spent 20 years in Investment advisory compliance, I can guarantee you FAR too many people would lose their socks in such a scenario. People are fecking stupid when it comes to investing, and the worst are the ones who think they aren’t.
