Keeping seat in Congress more important than anything else. Hegseth, RFK jr, Ukraine, ICE thugs, war in Iran, whatever. None of these worth risking their seats over.

I agree with that last part, but most Republicans in Buchanan's time were not populists.

t was actually “GOPer”. Buchanan ran for the presidency as a Republican twice. He was a “GOPer” by any reasonable understanding in my opinion. His move to the reform party was a means of political viability. He was the type of populist Tom’s post was calling “poison”.
