As a geologist, the flooded caverns and caves of the Yucatan are most spectacular. What felt surprisingly touching though were glimpses into the Mayan underworld of artifacts left behind when the caves were dry. Some close to an entrance, some surprisingly deep inside. #InternationalArchaeologyDay
Show Post🩵🖤🩶 Sat, Oct 17 After days of orcas inland Puget Sound yesterday was a quiet one. At some point our lovely friend Indy (T065A5) met w/the T123s and all exited Admiralty Inlet & continued west in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Farewell for now! 📷 T123s in Puget Sound by April Basham 10/13. #psws
Show PostNice exploration of the complexity of biological sex--and an emphasis that "sex" is not a construct... it's a word. It's a word that refers to different constructs in different contexts. & one of the many transphobic madnesses is using state power to hurt people to keep a word from having contexts!
Show PostThank you for this thread! I would like to add that this is about how complicated it can be within *one lineage* that has evolved different sexes. its evolved so many different times in organisms from slime molds to mosses and there are sometimes dozens of sexes. Its very much so not gender.
Show Post"iff" is a shortened version of "if and only if," so you use it when A implies B and also B implies A (also known as a biconditional). So "if the sun is visible in the sky, it's daytime" but you can't say "iff the sun is visible in the sky, it's daytime" because maybe it's cloudy but still day.
