Because right now, the message is: theft is fine when we do it and monetize it, but outrageous when they do it and release it for free. That's not a moral position. That's just market positioning dressed up as ethics.

You cannot walk into federal court and argue that OpenAI stole your life's work, and then in the next breath mock Chinese labs for believing in open-source science and shared knowledge. Pick a principle. Is the crime the taking, or is the crime who's doing the taking?

Communism, or at least the Chinese variant of state-directed open-source, believes shared knowledge should circulate. Each operates by its own logic. You don't have to like either one. But you do have to be honest about them.

This is, in its purest form, the difference between the two systems laid bare. Capitalism scrapes the commons, encloses it, and sells it back.

American labs, by contrast, stole public data, locked it inside proprietary models, and are now selling access back to the very people whose content was taken. That's not a technical difference. That's a structural one.
