Sorry, I didn't mean you specifically. Given we don't even understand what consciousness is anyway it all seems moot to me although a fascinating field. For instance at what moment does a fetus (of any species) becomes conscious and if there's truly some QM magic required for it to happen.

The more generic answer is that it is much, much easier to wreck the habitable planet you're on than to find and settle a new one. Any long-lived civilizations out there have solved Pascal's problem of learning to sit quietly in a room alone.
