It's sad and unnecessary that HOURCAR failed. Why didn't we know about this months ago? Where were the consulting business whizzes? Compare the tepid rescue efforts to the political effort expended and money committed to keep UBER drivers (not their fault) employed/retrained in the face of Waymo.

It's so galling that the cessation of a nonprofit, public/private, environmentally sound community carshare means that non-car-owners will have to depend more on exploitative companies like Uber & Instacart for things we did ourselves, at lower cost and greater flexibility, w/ HourCar.

Also foreseeable: spending way more on grocery delivery via Instacart and Doordash, esp in winter. With a list like "1 gal white vinegar, 1 gal distilled water, 1/2 gal 2% milk, 1 huge roll cling wrap that'll last 5 years, 3 lbs potatoes and parsnips," I'm not fetching all that on the bus in -5° F.

And I hate Uber. HATE it. Not the drivers, the company. Still I'll use it when I need to, resentfully.
