The best density is simply along the old yellow and red car lines, its in great locations, planned quite well for transit. We just removed those.

Don't get too thrilled about Sydney public transport. I live here and some of it is great (the new Metro system), and some is unreliable and not great (heavy trains, some buses, road infrastructure, sprawl, safety etc)

Los Angeles has perfectly reasonable density for transit, we simply have not built it. Compare to, e.g., Sydney Australia, a city with an identical density profile but much better transit
