"Just throw opioids at the pain until it goes away" isn't a diagnosis, it's the absence of an attempt to figure out the cause of the pain and whether opioids are the right treatment.

The only place I can see where it's valid to ask that question is "Could we be *misdiagnosing* something else as this condition?" But that's the kind of question you ask at a medical conference, not in a badly researched piece of scaremongering in some shitty newspaper.

The question "Is this condition overdiagnosed" is actually asking "Have we found an exceptional case of a medical issue where healthcare is too easy to get?" and the answer to that is always no. There has never, at any point, been a situation where it was too easy to get healthcare.

in pharmacy school I had a classmate who used to work at a juvenile detention center who was always going on about how ADHD meds were overprescribed to these kids and I was like. is there perhaps an alternative reason the impulse control disorder would be overrepresented here.
